The Stunningly beautiful historic Stamford Park in Altrincham
Stamford Park is just a short walk away from the metrolink and bus station in Altrincham town centre. The gardens are always well maintained with mature specimens of Oak, Willow and Plane trees, together with evergreen and ornamental species. Stamford Park is a popular spot for myself and the team here at Altrincham Glazing Co , actually in the last year alone we have installed new double glazing at 7 properties overlooking Stamford Park. I live very close by so I often visit with my young children at weekends.
Duck ponds, play areas and sports facilities make this a particularly family friendly destination and a small woodland section attracts squirrels and other animals. Visitors in search of wildlife are recommended to also seek out the nearby King George V Pond which is a haven for waterfowl.
Facilities at Stamford Park in Altrincham
At the Charter Road end of the park there are 2 play areas, one quite large and the second one particularly suited to toddlers with ample seating for the adults. Equipment on the park includes a slide, swings, climbing frame, roundabout. There used to be a paddling pool on the park but this area is now used as a makeshift skate park by older children who like to ride their skateboards, scooters and rollerblade on the area.
In the play area adjacent to the Counselling and Family Centre, equipment is more suitable for the under fives. It is hoped that this area will be improved in the future and the equipment upgraded but it still seems to entertain the little ones.
Football at Stamnford Park
At the queens road end of Stamford park there is a 9 a side football pitch which has changing facilities near the male toilets. You can book the pitch by calling Andrew Hilton who is the football development manager at Trafford leisure trust.
Lawn Bowls
The two greens adjacent to Stamford Park Road are the home of Hale Moss Bowling Club. They currently have six teams including veterans, ladies, men and mixed. Their ages range from 16-90 and they are always keen to welcome new members. If you want to find out more please contact Graham Rodger on 0161 283 2132.
Tennis
In the summer months I play tennis on Stamford Park most weekends with my partner. Three recently resurfaced tarmac courts are located adjacent to Charter Road. Nets are in place all year round and the courts are free to use. They are full sized courts which also incorporate orange and red markings.
The Oval
The grassed Oval in the centre of the park provides ample space for a wide variety of activities. Cricket, its original purpose, is still played but you will come across all manner of games being played in the area including frisbee, kite flying, Tai Chi or even Sudoku!
Basketball
Adjacent to the tennis courts is a tarmac court with basketball goals. This is also free to use.
Jogging / Walking / Cycling
The path around the Oval provides a 400 metre circuit which can be extended to take in the football pitch.
Skateboarding / Rollerblading
The former paddling pool alongside the larger playground has been informally used for these sports. It is neither specially equipped nor formally recognised for these activities.
Altrincham Glazing Co is located just 10 minutes walk from Stamford Park, why not pop into our offices and say hello after you have finished enjoying the park, we make an excellent cup of tea!
